This Saturday, Sept. 13, marks the 20th anniversary of the release of the Notorious B.I.G.'s Ready to Die. In remembrance, we've dedicated the week to Biggie: what the world was like when his debut dropped in 1994, the early days of the Black Frank White, and how well today's Bed-Stuy residents know the words of their neighborhood's most famous son. Today, we've got a comic strip rendition of an abridged version of "Gimme the Loot," Ready to Die's play-by-play of a robbery tag-team's work day. Lots of Biggie's songs follow overarching narratives, but the cinematic nature of "Gimme the Loot" lent itself best to illustration, which is why we chose it. Follow Biggie and his accomplice below.
